The Domaine des Chanssaud belongs to the JAUME family since 1826 as confirmed by the archives.
Unfortunately, the records could not certify the precedence.
But the family history says that a nun who belonged to the family took refuge at the estate with other Sisters during the French Revolution.
The name of the path linking the estate to the main road, “Chemin Jaume de Cabrières” is also the present witness of the memory of places and generations.
It used to be a comfortable family estate. Today are still to be found a cellar with thick walls, and in a close building a spiral staircase, a bread oven and a sink in freestone as in the famous Antic Theatre in Orange.
From the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, generations of winemakers followed one another.
The estate experienced the phylloxera and the birth of the first “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée” (AOC) in 1929, recognised by decree in 1935.
Originally the farm was planted with vineyards, cherry trees and olive trees and with the passing years, it became a wine estate covering 50 hectars and run by Patrick JAUME since 1987.
The old cellar housing the oak barrels is now the ageing cellar and a friendly tasting place.
A modern cellar with a capacity of 2500 hl was built in 1994. It is equipped with the modern techniques that, combined with the family know-how enable a vinification in optimal conditions. |
